Date: Mon, 02 Jan 1995 13:56:38 -0500 (EST) From: Alvin Plummer Subject: Three characters I spent most of my holidays generating UWP's for c. 800 systems - by hand (talk about dreary paperwork!) - and putting together a rough draft of an adventure for submission to Challange. (Wish me luck! And yes, I have the submission requirements...) But, yesterday I created three new characters for publication here, so here goes... -------------------------- Flott Trazyen Spaceport Administrator UPP: 955824-9 Age: 31 (31) in 1200 Born: 1169 Gender: Male Career: Manager Rank: CEO, Nih Operations Born: as one of two clones on Vinorian (Rhylanor: Spinward Marches/3111 B879610-9 Ni 610 Re M3 V M4 D) Resides: Asculi (FR00212-9), aka Gillarm Zeta Ay, in the Vinorian System. A thin ring, orbiting the gas giant Mallowan. The station - called, appropriately enough, Asculi Station - has 600 pernament residents, and 4000 temporary residents. Skills: Persuasion 4 (9) Survival 1 (9) Admin/Legal 2 (4) Climbing 1 (6) Bargain 2 (6) Mechanic 1 (10) Leadership 1 (5) E. Pistol 1 (6) Willpower 1 (9) E. Rifle 1 (6) [Laser only] Zero-G 0 (5) Enviro. Suit 1 (6) Computer 0 (2) Grav Vech 0 (5) Possessions : Access to a 6 MCr line of credit, as administrator. (Used sparingly.) Appearance: Standard company overalls. Unusually, he prefers computer printouts rather than a commplate, since he has only the weakest familiarity with computers. White; slick, limp black hair, no beard. Brown eyes and a nondescript Regency accent. Has a holster, but usually empty (despite the low station law level, no guns or weapons are permitted on your person. Excluding that, what you do is your own business.) Personality: Unrefined and lower-class, but cautious. (his high 'social rating' is derived from his position, not his orgins.) Seperates business from private life. A good conversationalist and salesman when the situation warrents. Conventional sense of morality... except when it comes to smuggling ("Why shouldn't people get what they want?") History: Born and raised as one of two clones (his brother, four days earlier from the artifical womb, is also named Flott. The difference is in the emphasis of the "Fl" with our Flott, rather than the "ott" with his brother.) The brothers were raised by professional parents, in a 'pod' of 10 (that is 5 cloned twins). They chose to give their Corporate Service in Provider Terraforming's corporate army. Afterwards, they were fortunate enough to continue their affiliation with Provider itself - rather than one of it's lesser subsidaries or subcontractors - as managers. They did well in the Company - the elder Flott was promoted and transferred to corporate headquarters at Regina, the younger obtained a good-paying position in Transport at Asculi Station. However, someone at Head Office decided to sell Asculi Station to the station employees in 1195. They selected Mr. Trazyen to be their leader/spokesman, as well as Spaceport Administrator. Asculi station was originally a corporate SDB base to protect Mallowan: it still acts a subcontractor of Provider to guard Vinorian's sole gas giant with 2 SDB's. More and more, however, it's acting as an unoffical "smuggler's cove" of in-system Provider merchantman acting as part-time smugglers, working to circumvent Vinorian's high tarrif walls. About 6 of Provider's 8 spaceship's are involved, and all make the Vinorian-Asculi run regularly. Also, 2-3 jumpships come here also, some on legitamate business, some not. Mr. Trazyen is looking for anyone who can drum up more out-system business for his 'little operation'. More importantly, he's desperate for information concerning Provider's response - he *knows* that they know what's going on, but they do nothing at all. (Perhaps it's because they _can't_ do anything (every Provider ship is involved in some way, after all)? It's too minor to act against? Or are they quietly negotiating (sp!) with a starmerc? If bribery is doing the work, who's bribing who? (His little 'bargain' with the SDB captains is common knowledge outside of Vinorian itself) --------------------------- Corvell Hippocompal Wealthy Traveller UPP: 57477A-8 Age: 44 (looks early 30's) Born: 1156 Gender: male Career: Wealthy Traveller [ex-Trader, ex-Manager] Born: Karin (Five Sisters: Spinward Marches/05334 A767768-C A Ag Ri Amber 410 Re M7V) Resides: on the yacht _Sundiver_, registered from Trin, with 8 other wealthy men. Acts as Pilot. Skills: Bargain 5 (15) Act/Bluff 1 (11) Pilot Grav/Inter 4 (11) Computer 1 (8) Streetwise 3 (13) Sensors 1 (8) Communication 2 (9) Persuasion 1 (11) Marketing 2 (9) Starship arch 1 (8) Admin/Legal 2 (9) Machinist 1 (8) High-G Enviro 2 (6) Gravitics 1 (8) Enviro Suit 1 (5) Forgery 1 (8) Slug Pistol 1 (6) Vilani 1 (11) Unarmed MA 0 (5) Liaison 1 (11) Engineering 0 (7) Airship 1 (8) History 0 (7) Gambling 1 (8) Zero-G Enviro 1 (5) Possessions: A small flat on Glisten & Trin A 3300 hectare ranch on Karin 2 MCr on Karin, .5 MCr cash on the _Sundiver_ in the form of physical high-denomination coins, .5 Mcr in a Trin account Several 'high-tech' antiques, esp. ancient laser pistols, on board One modern slug pistol, for personal protection. Appearance: A very handsome man, he could easily pass for a movie star. Tall and fit, with brown hair, sky-blue eyes and an easy smile. Excercises daily. Personality: Well, actually Mr. Hippocompol (call him Carvell) doesn't actually *have* a personality: instead, he determines what others like to see, and projects that image. He does have a major drive, however: success (much of which he already has!) If anyone threatens his accomplishments, he can easily enter into a rage. If you don't, then he's the best of friends. While on the chartered yacht, his favourate image is that of "playboy". Debonair, wealthy, successful, sophisticated and cosmopolitian are good descriptors of his public style here. Perhaps the only 'real' facet of his life is his hobby as a 'technological archelogist', that is, his desire to obtain TL 7 to TL B artifacts, older than 800 years. His actual knowledge of history is thin, but he's a good actor, and loves the feel of history in his hands. History: The first 8 years of Mr. Hippocompol's career was as a space bum, working the few lines that operate in the Five Sisters. This was his most happiest, most free period, but after a while he realized that he needed real money to get where he wanted to go - money only an officer could make. So he sought - and quickly got - a berth as a 4th Officer with a shoestring operation. Except this free trader was a classic dead end. The 130-year old ship had a drunken, abusive captain, a neurotic first mate and a lowlife crew of 3 (excluding Hippocompol himself). Eventually, robots with a "mild" Virus infection was used instead of humans, with unfortunate results. Somehow, Hippocompol mamaged to endure 9 years of this, falling deeply into the captain's debt in the meanwhile. Eventually, the captain died an unexpected death (details remain cloudy: the ship's internal sensors went out a loooong time ago). As the sole member of the crew to return, the ship was his under Karin law, and he sold it to the scrappers for a fair sum of money. He reinvested this money in a part-ownership of a small business for grav-furniture, and blossomed into this business' top salesman. Spending 7 years, tirelessly working to make something of himself eventually turned him into a very wealthy man: his share of the business was bought out at the tune of 14 MCr. And now, after all that agony and estascy, what to do? Well, to become the man he always wanted to be - the playboy without a care in the world. But the time the PC's meet him, he's tired of playing around. He owes quite a lot of people back in the Five Sisters, both in reward and punishment. Despite his good looks, he can feel the age in his bones, and wants to 'clear his accounts' before he dies. If the PC's accept his patronage, you should perpare for quite an adventure. ----------------------- Grand Admiral Countess Zigum Shakhilur Murladiikash Grand Admiral and Sea Lord of the Regency Countess of Delrirook Marchioness of Takahira, Rif ans Kamlar Baroness of 22 fiefs (15 in Deneb sector, 4 in the Spinward Marches, 3 in Vland Sector) ['Delrirook' is a multisystem fief if 11 systemd in Deneb Sector, including Pika] UPP: 548866-E Age: 147 (55) Born: 1053 Gender: Female Career: Wet Navy Rank: Countess Born : Pika (Vast Heavens: Deneb/1633 B738A86-C Hi 612 Re K76 V) Resides : Mora (sorry: no UWP this time!) It's on Giikusu (Dunmag: Deneb/2316 E647ABC-B) Appearance: for a pureblood Vilani, Countess Murladiikash is on the short and squat side. Her light-brown skin, contrasted against grey eyes and short salt-and-pepper hair, thends to leave the impression of stolid, sensible stability rather than the exotic and alien. Personality: The Countess' naturally conservative, 'by-the-book' way of living is exaggerated immensely by the fact that A) She's a Noble B) She's Vilani C) She's in the least galmourous of the Regency military services D) her long, long life. She's also something of a grouch, endlessly complaining that Things Today would never meet Gavin's/Strephon's/Norris' standards, and that nothing today matches The Good Ole Days of the unified Imperium / the Rebellion / the Domain Era. Her favourate subject - and the high point of her long life - was when she, as a young duchess on her war to the Imperial Sea Navy Academy on Capital, was invited to witness Strephon's coronation at 1071. PC's will quickly learn which key words to avoid. History: Countess Murladiikash is the oldest ruling noble alive, outside of Low Berth. While not beloved like Norris or Avery, she is respected for her loyality to the Regency and her vigourous defense of the democratic reforms. Her family line can be traced back to the rulers of a small, seafaring Vilani nation some 150,000 years ago. She has followed her families expectation in all ways, joining the Imperial Sea Navy ("None of this revisionist "Space Navy" nonsense - Only the REAL Navy for me!") and rising to a subsector Admiral position by the time of the Rebellion. Regency Sea Lord since 1181, the Grand Admiral has overseen a major (and long-overdue) updrage of her forces. [ And, in case you're wondering what a Wet Navy Grand Admiral has to do with a navy of 12 different tech levels and over 3700 seperate oceans.... Well, it's mainly oriented to A) maintaining a universal standard of training and equipment B) logistics [ie. shipping TL F submarines to defend a TL 7 world from Aslan attack.] C) distribution of resources, with hi-pop water worlds (with their undersea cities) getting top priority. The Countess has taken special interest in developing submarines fleets that can be dropped in from orbit. A very select group of jump-capable subs has also been raised, and is currently undergoing testing. ] PC's can be involved as "personal reps" or a "personal xboat service" for the Grand Admiral. Spying on Aslan fleets, training wet navies, and looking in the Wilds for examples of Virus naval tactics is also needed. (The players should be wary of being used as bait for the last example, though.
