Concise Animated Gif Archive

This is a FAQ / general info page about this archive

(MIZZOU USERS) I can't get the buttons to work.
This page is Netscape Enhanced with Java-Script. If you click on the buttons and nothing happens check under 'OPTIONS' 'SECURITY PREFERENCES' 'GENERAL' and make sure that javascript is ENABLED. At Mizzou the default is disabled. (I have no idea why)

Why 'Concise' and not Huge?
After many months of browsing the web for icons that would actually work on a home page I noticed that most of the archives out there were just too big. They had many great icons on there, but because there were so many it was h ard to find them. This archive cuts out the icons that are very large and impractical for a web page. You won't find any that are greater than 25K and any that are you know, dorky. Most of these icons/bars/rules will enhance your page, not slow it down or make it look tacky.

I found a really neat icon you don't have!
I'll take it! This page is updated everytime I snag a new animated gif. If you have found one that is in general a good graphic that will be used by the majority of the people browsing it I would really like to add it to the ar chive. You can either e-mail me the link which you found it or attach it to the e-mail.

Netscape crashes when I look at the GIFs
Darn the luck. Netscape, though I love it more than any other browser ever made, sucks when it comes to loading many many many pictures. Expecially pictures in tables. Why? I have no fricking idea. I found that if you have t he latest version, 2.02 and 3.05, you're sitting pretty. If you don't, prepare to get a general protection fault. If this becomes too much of a problem I'll have to resort to using an imagemap. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO! The beauty of this page is that i f I add an icon a script snags the first frame of it and saves it to a directory under that icon, updates the main page by getting the gif's height and width and finally adds the link to the table. It a heck of a lot easier than updating an imagemap by h and.

I can't see any of the animation.
Whatta using, Lynx? Get NETSCAPE, NETSCAPE, NETSCAPE! MS Internet Explorer won't work unless they have a version that will view frames. I'm probably one of the few people out there that really like MS products. I live to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint! I also think they should stick to those programs because Netscape it a heck of a lot better than their browser.

Do you have any animated JPEGs?
Yes I do. Well, sort of. Using server push-pull it can be done! I've got a little ditty on the TWA DOME. You know, where the St. Louis RAMS play. That's as close as you can get to an animated JPEG. Well, as long as your not including MPEG. But that has nothing to do with this page.
